String Art on the Wall

Image
I have a really cool project that I am so excited to share with you today, you may have already seen it since I shared it over at City Farmhouse awhile back, but if you missed it, you can catch up today.  I call it String Art on the Wall! Sometimes ideas come to me in the middle of the night and I lay in bed thinking, "Wow! that's an awesome idea, did I just come up with that?" But truthfully I feel like the inspiration comes from another place and that it is up to me to create it and share it, therefore the credit does not belong to me, but to the universe :) This string art wall project was one of those middle of the night idea. I woke up the next morning and immediately started trying to figure out how I was going to create the look. I sketched out different patterns onto paper but in the end I pretty much just made it up as I went along. I think it turned out great! It really adds a bit of a wow factor to the room.  Today I want to teach you how I did it so that you

My Bohemian Bedroom

I'm pretty sure I switch the look of my bedroom up every time I change the sheets, which sadly probably isn't often enough. How often do you change your sheets? I'm not saying how often I do it, but lets just say that when I do, it feels like a fresh start that always inspires me to freshen up the rest of the room as well.  This time around I added a Bohemian look to the room. It's easy to change the look of a room if  you start with a neutral pallet such as my white walls and white bedding. Then by playing around with accessories you can add in whatever style you wish. My style varies from farmhouse, coastal, cottage and bohemian. The first accessory I added to the room was this dream catcher that I've hung from the curtain rod above my bed. The dream catcher actually got a second makeover before I hung it up.  I once blogged about a sad little dream catcher that I picked up at a yard sale and I gave it a makeover, well that dream catcher was starting to look a li

How to make a Driftwood Garland

Image
Hi! In my last post I shared a picture of this driftwood garland that I had hanging in our backyard play house . I made it last summer using some driftwood that I had gathered up while on a family trip to the beach.  I had originally shared this tutorial over at City Farmhouse , but today I want to re share it here for any of you who may have missed it.  While I was on our trip to the coast, I saw quite a few of these driftwood garlands hanging on the porches of  quaint little beach cottages. I thought they were really neat and I knew I could make one of my own really easily, so I collected tons of driftwood to bring home every day we went to the beach  Like most of my projects, this was incredibly simple to make. I started off with 112 pieces of driftwood, each piece is approximately the same length. I drilled a hole into the center of each piece. Because driftwood is such a soft wood, the drill goes through them very smoothly. Once I got started it went by really fast.  I even had my

Our Play House Before and After

Image
Not too long ago I shared this play house / play fort that is in our backyard as part of a Work and Play tour.   Today, I want to share a little more about it. As you can see from this before and after picture I have recently given it a bit of a makeover. We love this play house in our backyard, in fact it was one of the reasons I wanted to buy our house years ago because I knew my two boys would have so much fun playing in it.  But it was starting to look a bit run down and so I wanted to give it a little attention. The first thing I did was scrape and sand off all of that chippy paint.  In my mind I could picture the fort being painted a bright green and while searching around our garage one day I spotted a can of the perfect shade of green in an exterior paint. I couldn't believe it, it felt like fate. But once I got some of the paint on, the green just didn't look right.  I never planned to paint the house part of the fort since it was still in really good shape. It is ac
