What to do with an old broken Christmas Tree

Image
Do you have an old broken artificial Christmas tree that you don't know what to do with? If so, I'm here to convince you to recycle it rather than throw it out. My Mother-in-law's Christmas tree broke and so she had to buy a new one.  She gave me the broken tree knowing that I could find a way to re use it, and boy Did I!  I am about to share with you the many ways I have used her tree to decorate our home for Christmas this year. So to start, I took my tree loppers and cut off  the tree branches from the tree. This wasn't as simple as it sounds, It took some muscle and  a lot of twisting to get these branches off.  I would also suggest wearing gloves because my hands were all cut up by the time I was finished. But in the end I was left with a pile of branches that I could incorporate into my holiday decorating. As for the tree top, I just placed it in the ground in the front of our house.  Do you spot it there down on the right side? The most creative thing I did with

Peanut Butter Popcorn - Christmas Neighbor Gifts

Image
Just 2 more days until Christmas! We're in full blown excitement mode around here. 😁  So I thought I'd sneak away from my hyperactive boys and share a yummy popcorn recipe with you. This is what we passed out to our neighbors this year.  We originally planned to make cookies to pass out to our neighbors, but let's just say they turned out a bit too crunchy and so I had to come up with a new plan. 😜 I basically already had all of the ingredient on hand, I just had to grab some fresh marshmallows at the grocery store, and then I whipped up some Yummy Peanut Butter Popcorn.  Now I made a lot!  I'll share the recipe here in just a bit, but just so you know, I had doubled the recipe here to fill 5 bread bags. I then packaged them up in some really cute black buckets with red and black buffalo check handles that I found at Target (of course) and they even had cute matching tags to go with. My boys and I had a lot of fun putting these together and passing them out to our nei

Evergreen Christmas Mantel

I know Christmas is just a few days away, but when I shared our Cottage Christmas Home Tour, I had promised to come back and share more details of our fireplace with you.  So I guess I better hurry and do that before Christmas is over, right? 😉 The fireplace is my favorite part of all of my holiday decorating.  Well, wait a sec, I take that back, our fireplace is my Second favorite part of my holiday decorating, our home's exterior is my most favorite, Did you see it? You can  HERE . But I also had a lot of fun decorating our fireplace this year. So to start, I left my rattan mirror from Target ( that I painted ) hanging up. And then I started playing around with all of the decorations on the mantel...which have all mostly come from Target too.  I blogged more about the mini trees that I gave a little makeover to in  This  post.  And then I just placed the trees into some white pots. The mini skis were from Target last year. I've had this glass tree candle stand for years and

Christmas Cottage Porch With Balsam Hill & A Giveaway

Image
In years past, when decorating our home for Christmas, I've kept our front porch rather simple: a wreath on the door, perhaps a small tree to the side, but that was it. I focused most of my attention on the inside of our home.   But this year, with the help of Balsam Hill ,  I thought I'd put a little more thought into the exterior of our home to provide a warm welcome for when friends and family stop by. THIS Noel sign could not have been a more perfect fit to go above our door. It has little white LED lights in it so it lights up and looks really festive at night. On each side of the door I have placed THESE frosted evergreen foliage into some large pots. The frosted snow and natural pinecones give them a beautiful and realistic winter forest look. These also have LED lights in them so they sparkle at night time. My grandmother's skis made it out onto our porch this year.  I decorate with these skis every holiday season as a gentle reminder of her.  I have such wonderful
