15 Must Haves For Fall

Image
Fall is just around the corner and I am ready to embrace it. Here are 15 things that are on my wish list for Fall I think these black organic rimmed dinner plates  would be cool and rustic for all of my fall gathering events. And I would want to pair those plates with these black and white feather napkins  . I love using rustic accents in the fall, and this Birch Branch candle holder would be so pretty sitting on a table, all lit up.  And this  Kilim rug. .....Do I need to say more? This cute fall tank made me smile. Speaking of Pumpkin Spice, every fall I Have To burn a pumpkin spice candle. Have To! I love the smell of pumpkin. My favorite candles ever are the WoodWick . Have you ever burned one of these?  The wick actually crackles like a fire when it's lit. When I think of fall, farm life always comes to mind for some reason.  So I feel like this faux cowhide pillow would be the perfect fall accessory. While I'm at it, I'll take one of the f aux fur throw blankets  a

How to Dye a White Ikea Ektorp Sofa Navy Blue

Image
Did you happen to catch my blog post a few weeks ago about my  Denim Sofa Love ?  I have wanted a denim sofa for years, but as you may know, I have this white  Ikea Ektorp sofa.  Okay, now don't get me wrong, I LOVE my white sofa, it's just that sometimes I want to change things up a bit, especially for the changing seasons, and denim just feels so fitting for fall. At one time Ikea carried a denim slipcover for this sofa, but I wasn't  quick enough to get one and it has since been discontinued. Back when I got my sofa years ago, a blog reader advised me to pick up an extra slipcover for it.  The white slipcovers only cost fifty dollars, and it's just nice to have an extra set on hand while one is in the wash or whatever. SO because I had an extra slipcover, I decided that this could be the perfect opportunity to have both, a denim/navy and a white sofa.  Win! Win! So I went to my local Albertsons and bought two bottles of Rit Navy Blue dye and two bottles of Rit Black

My Summer Yard Sale Finds

Image
It's no secret that I love to shop yard sales.  In fact, a lot of my home's decor was picked up from various yard sales over the years.  I just find so much joy in rumbling through other people's junk. It's seriously one of my favorite things to do.   Almost every Saturday during the summer months my mother-in-law and I go out for a drive to see if we can catch a few sales and I almost always bring home a few treasures . Today, I want to share what I've picked up at yard sales so far this summer. Let's start with my haul from last weekend: The spinning DVD tower has found a home in our basement holding Wii U games. However, I have a vision of using it at Christmas time to hang our Christmas cards on using clothes pins.   The metal Basketball court rules sign (which I got for free) now hangs in my boy's room. I love my new floppy white sunhat and have already worn it to the lake.  I like that it folds up and can be placed in a suitcase.  I'll be taking it

More Fake Planks In Our Dining Room

Image
Remember when I added fake planks to my bedroom wall using a level and a pencil?  (See that post HERE )  Well I love the look so much that I decided to add fake planks to our dining room wall as well. But I did something different this time.  Instead of using a pencil to make my lines, I used a black colored pencil.  Before, I had to go over the lines with a matte polycrylic sealer to protect the lines from smearing, but because a colored pencil has wax in it, it doesn't really smear that much and so there was no need for the sealer.  However, if the lines were to get wet they would smear. So if you are planning to do this in a kitchen or a bathroom, or if you are someone who washes your walls, then you will want to add a polycrilic sealer over the pencil lines. I can't imagine my walls getting wet here in our dining room, so I skipped sealing it. Also, the lines could possibly be done with a permanent marker as well and then you wouldn't need a sealer, but I haven't
