Easy Pom Pom Pillow

Image
Once upon a time, like a few weeks ago, there was a green plaid pillow at a popular store that I wanted. And every time I went to that store, I eyed that pillow. I wanted that pillow, and I wanted a blue coordinating pillow to go with it.  But those pillows were 20 dollars a piece, and yes, that's a decent price to pay for a pillow, but I really just didn't want to spend money on holiday decor. So instead I made a pillow.  And in the end, my pillow turned out to be even cuter than the one in the store. The pillow that I'm referring to, is this green pom pom pillow in our living room. Have you seen my Holiday Home Tour yet? If not, you can check it our HERE. So one day I went to JoAnns fabric store with my Mother-in-law and I spotted this green plaid fabric. I bought a yard of it, along with 4 pom pom tree ornaments. It was all on sale, so I believe my total cost was under 10 dollars. Now that's an even better price for a pillow!  I came home and whipped up an easy pock...

Sporty Fall Pillow

Throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to switch up the look of a  room for the changing seasons. But that doesn't mean you need to go out and buy new pillows every season.  That could end up costing a lot of money and then where do you store the extra pillows once the season is over? I have found that by buying a yard of fabric, I am able to sew a simple pillow cover that saves me money and are easy to remove and store when not in use.  This black and white sporty pillow is one of my latest creations.  I was inspired by this rustic black and white buffalo check fabric I purchased at Walmart  for only 3 dollars a yard.  I knew this fabric would be a great touch to add to our Fall living room.  I also thought it would probably fit in with my Christmas decor as well,  so really this pillow doesn't need to be seasonal at all, and in fact,  I'm sure you'll see a lot of this pillow in our home all year round.  Here are the steps to sew t...

Easy Sew Denim Placemats & A Patriotic table setting

Image
Did you guys ever see these denim placemats I made last year and shared on  Ella Claire  blog? Well with the Forth of July coming up soon, I thought I'd share them again here on my own blog.  I think they turned out super cute. I use them all the time now. For this project you will need to start with several pairs of old jeans. This was the perfect project for me since my boys tend to wear out their jeans so fast. I used an existing placemat as a template and laid it on top of some thick white cotton fabric and cut out. This is for the back side of the placemat. Next,  I cut my jeans into all different sizes and layered them onto the white fabric. Once I was happy with the layout I sewed the denim onto the white fabric, layer by layer. I found a strip of yellow stitching on the inside hem of a pair of jeans, I loved it so much that I used it on all four of my placemats. I also sewed a pocket onto each placemat to be used to hold utensils. I love that they fray a litt...

Toilet Bowl Cleaner Bleached Rag Pillows

I'm so freaking excited to share this project with you today! It's a project that didn't go as planned and almost ended up in the garbage, but by thinking outside of the box.... or in this case, the trash can,  I ended up with two new favorite pillows. Are you a fan of the Indigo Shibori trend that seems to be everywhere right now? I am! Totally! I can't get enough of this amazing blue and white designed print.  As I was drooling over these fabulous pillows on page 4 of my Pottery Barn catalog, I got to thinking,  "I could probably make something similar myself" And so that is how this whole project began. I had a pair of old blue curtains on hand that I knew would be perfect for this project. The curtains already had a faded look to them because I had used them to cover my patio furniture cushions last summer.  I came up with the idea of using toilet bowl cleaner with bleach to create a pattern on the fabric.  Looking back, I think I would have been better of...
