Teacher Gift

Image
Happy May! My boys get out of school at the end of the month and I'm blown away because that is just weeks away!  Where does the time go?  My boys are pretty excited to get started on their summer vacation but they are also a bit sad to have to say goodbye to their teachers. They both have such wonderful teachers and so I have come up with a sweet little gift that they can give to them on the last day of school.  (This post was previously shared on  City Farmhouse )  I typed up a few sayings, printed them out and glued them to decorative paper.  I will share the printables at the end of this post so that you can use them too. I came up with the idea of using rulers as plant marker, which I thought was so appropriate for a teacher.  I hot glued a clothespin to the ruler so that it could hold the card.   I bought the ceramic pots at the dollar store.  They had lots of different colors to choose from but I thought these turquoise ones were ...

Project Fail! Picture Frame Garden Markers

Image
Sometimes great ideas come to me that turn into neat projects that I share with you, and other times great ideas come to me that turn out to be complete fails and they never get shared.   Just today, I was going through my picture files, and I came across this project that I did last spring, but never shared it with you.  This project could have been genius, but it didn't work out so great in the end. Because I still think this is a cool idea, I wanted to share it with you anyway, and maybe, just maybe, you can come up with a new solution on how it can work out better. I'll share what went wrong and the rest is up to you.  Okay, so for this project, I started out with four 3.5 X 5 picture frames from the Dollar store, and four paint stir sticks. I removed the glass and backs of the frames, and painted the frames and sticks in a white spay paint. Once the paint was dried, I hot glued the glass back into place.  I also ran the hot glue all around the edges of the glass...

Potted Succulent Centerpiece

Image
Hello.  I just wanted to quickly share with you today this simple succulent centerpiece that I created.  (Simple Succulent Centerpiece...Say that 3 times fast :) ) I wasn't sure what else to call it. Anyway, I put it together within minutes and I thought it turned out super cute. Okay. so you are probably thinking, Yes I already know how to plant a plant, I'm not stupid. But what I mostly wanted to inspire you with is that I picked this vase up at the thrift store yesterday for just a few dollars. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to create a little succulent garden in it. The reason I thought that may inspire you is because these sorts of vases can Always be found at thrift stores, yard sales, and other junk stores.  And chances are you probably already have something like this on hand. But I think that this sort of vase might typically be something that you would just glance at and walk on by because on its own it doesn't look like anything special.   By fil...

Displaying Air Plants

Image
I adore Air Plants! I think they are so adorably cute and I just love how they can live and grow with No Dirt.  Air Plants Rock!   I picked up my first air plant a year ago at a souvenir shop on the Oregon coast and I have manage to keep it alive ever since.  So I always knew I wanted more air plants, but they seem to be hard to come by. Well I manage to get some from an uncle who sells them in his store, Backyard Birds, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have had so much fun playing around with my new little air plants and I came up with this cool little display that I'm going to  share with you today. This was my grandma's old trunk, I've been using it as a coffee table in our office. Because this room gets a ton of natural light, I knew it would be a great place to keep my new air plants. On top of the trunk I added my DIY Greenhouse Terrarium  that I made from picture frames.  Inside the mini greenhouse is a small plant that is not an air plant, b...

How to Recycle a Coffee Can into a Planter Bucket

Image
I have a great recycling project to share with you today. It is something that is not only simple to make, but it is also a good way to show the planet you care. By reusing a couple of old coffee cans, I have made these beautiful buckets that are perfect for holding potted plants.   I originally shared this project at City Farmhouse , so you may have seen it already, but because this is one of my favorite projects of the year so far, I wanted to re-share it here at The Wicker House. So I'm a big coffee drinker. I gotta have my coffee every morning before I can start the day.  Are you a coffee drinker too? If not, find a friend who is and have them save their coffee cans for you so that you can make this project too. I buy my coffee from Costco and lately I have really been enjoying this Kirkland brand one. However, when my coffee is all gone, I have had a hard time throwing away the cans. I just felt like there was something cool I could create with them. So after much ...
