My Summer Yard Sale Finds

Image
It's no secret that I love to shop yard sales.  In fact, a lot of my home's decor was picked up from various yard sales over the years.  I just find so much joy in rumbling through other people's junk. It's seriously one of my favorite things to do.   Almost every Saturday during the summer months my mother-in-law and I go out for a drive to see if we can catch a few sales and I almost always bring home a few treasures . Today, I want to share what I've picked up at yard sales so far this summer. Let's start with my haul from last weekend: The spinning DVD tower has found a home in our basement holding Wii U games. However, I have a vision of using it at Christmas time to hang our Christmas cards on using clothes pins.   The metal Basketball court rules sign (which I got for free) now hangs in my boy's room. I love my new floppy white sunhat and have already worn it to the lake.  I like that it folds up and can be placed in a suitcase.  I'll be ta...

Our EntryWay Decorated For Fall

Image
I just shared my Fall Home Tour, did you have a chance to see it? If not, you can catch it  HERE. Because I had only shared a quick glimpse of my entryway on the tour, I wanted to come back and share a little bit more about it today. In this space next to our front door I have created an easy fall look that greets family and friends as they enter into our home.  First off, I think what makes this space special is the blue door.  I get quite a few comments asking what color it is, so just in case you are interested in it too, it is called, Night Scape by Valspar. The next thing I wanted to talk about is this memory box display. I picked up this memory/shadow/letterpress box at a yard sale last summer but I had never found a place to put it until now. It fits so perfect above my numbered coat hook that I'm wondering why I never thought to hang it up here before. In my Fall Home Tour I share how I have framed some beautiful black and white photography that  h...

DIY First Aid Medicine Cabinet

Image
Hello friends! Today and I wanted to share with  you this vintage inspired first aid medicine cabinet that I created and hung up in the main bathroom of our home. I absolutely adore the look of vintage medicine cabinets and so I wanted to try and recreate the look of one by using an old jewelry box that I had picked up one day while out junk picking. Using an old jewelry box is perfect for this project, but any wooden box with a hinged lid would work well. I first painted my jewelry box in a flat white paint and then I used blue painters tape to create a cross is the center of the box. I traced around the taped cross with a pencil, then removed the tape and added it to the outside of the traced cross. Using a small paintbrush and red craft paint I then carefully painted in the cross. Lastly, to give it a worn vintage look I used sandpaper to scruff up the whole box, especially around all of the edges. I used screws in each of the inside corners to attach the box to the wall. The me...

Painting Rattan & Bamboo Furniture

Image
I don't know about you, but I love rattan furniture and I have always been drawn to it.  Well actually, I love Wicker, Rattan, Bamboo, and Sea grass. It all has a hand crafted, tropical look that meshes so well with the rest of my easy going, beachy boho style. So when I first laid eyes on this rattan mirror from Target, it was Love at first Sight and I knew I had to have it for our mantel.  Then later when I found this matching coffee table at a thrift store I knew it was meant to be. Fate brought us together. However, I soon grew tired of the orange color and wanted to give both pieces a new look.  I first tried to stain the rattan thinking a pretty weathered brown would look amazing.  But come to find out, you can't stain rattan. Well at least I couldn't because this furniture had some sort of glossy finish to it that the stain wouldn't adhere to. So I knew spray paint would have to be the way to go. I found this Camouflage spray paint from Rust-Oleum that I...

Beachy sign with Bob Marley lyrics

Hello, I hope you are having a great summer. We sure are, but it's also been a busy one so you may have noticed that things have slowed down a bit here on the blog, but I did want to pop in real quick and share this sign I had made for our entryway.  You may have seen it already since I had originally shared it over at City Farmhouse a while back, but in case you missed it, I wanted to share it with you again. And in the meantime, in between my blog post, you can always find me on Instagram and Facebook . So be sure you are following me there so we can keep connected. To make my sign, I first started off with this old sign that I had made years ago.  I had made it out of an old cabinet door that I bought at Re-store for a dollar.   Cabinet doors make great signs because they are a good size and they usually have a trim boarder around them. This one here even had a cute bead board look to it. Re-store is a great place to buy old cabinet doors, but if you have, or know o...
